Development by areas

Barcelona can be divided into a number of areas, each with a different recent development history. Each is affected in different ways by the combination of their built inheritance, their interest to private developers and the form of public intervention of the authorities since 1975. They may be divided into two groups, the first being the restructuring of the older central areas, the second containing what may be seen as "gateways".
