Part 1. Background and analysis

Bracknell

A view of Charles Street showing recent improvements and greening

Bracknell was developed in the 1950's and 60's as one of the first round of new towns built after the war. Today the borough has a population of just under 96,000 and lies to the west of London just outside the M25 ring. The nearest large towns are Reading, which is about 15km to the west, and Maidenhead and Slough to the North. Within a 5km radius are the smaller towns of Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Wokingham, Binfield and Ascot. In this section we summarise the findings of our research and analysis of the town centre.
