Introduction

The idea of professional tours was originated by Dezsõ Ekler, based on research on the history and development of housing in Budapest. Later the idea evolved into the a series of tours around the town in different directions. The tours start from the inner city and follow a radial route to the periphery with 8-10 stops. Thus each tour gives a general view of the town investigating one 'slice' of it. The tours can be guided by professionals, but a series of booklets help the participants to understand the structure of the town, and also give detailed information for those who wish to make discoveries of their own.

Each booklet gives a general introduction to the development of the town, focusing on the role of housing and showing characteristic elements and forces that formed it's present shape. Detailed background information describes recent changes and the present situation of the housing sector. Tours are introduced by a short general overview on the historic evolution of the districts and each stop has a description of the given site.
