Intervention in Battery Point, Hobart, Tasmania, 1996.
An urban design experiment by Stuart Bowling and Damien Mugavin.
The agenda for this project is an experimental deconstruction, an urban design intervention, into the established structure of Sullivan's Cove, Battery Point. [Fig 1, 2 & 3.] The area encompasses some of the earliest sites of European settlement in Tasmania, from St Davids Park in the north west, formerly a burial ground (1804), around towards Battery Point. (Salamanca Place in Fig 2, as it extends to the Ordnance Wharf, is generally seen as "Proposed Road 60 feet from High Water Mark" in Fig 1.) The project area coincides with Knopwood's farm, more or less.
