Walt Disney and the Quest for Community
Author: Mannheim, S
Publish date: 2002
Publisher: Ashgate
Abstract: This book looks at the perhaps forgotten influence of Walt Disney on American urban planning. He was an innovative social and urban engineer and expert at assembling land; creating worlds that were not only a perceived ideal but also visions of a 'City of Tomorrow.' The book offers an interesting comparison between Disney's vision and the simliar Garden City in Europe. The book questions how plausible Disney's creatons were, and while taking a look at his 'Celebration' development in Florida, whether his communties could have been viable.
