Nottingham's 28-acre waterfront deevlopment gains outline planning permission
Ambitious regeneration proposals for Nottingham have taken a major step forward now the city council has given outline planning permission for a project designed to transform one of the city's most rundown areas into a modern riverside community.
Initial approval for the Trent Basin scheme, located between Nottingham Canal to the west and the racecourse to the east, will start the first phase of the near £400 million redevelopment .
It should create a 28-acre waterfront housing district which will include a new riverside promenade, shops, a community centre and boating facilities some 20 minutes walk from the city centre.
The scheme is being masterminded by national regeneration agency English Partnerships and specialist developer ISIS Waterside Regeneration. Eventually the project should provide some 2,200 new homes in the heart of the east Midlands city.
A feature of the proposals will be the range of different home types. This will include townhouses, flats and large family apartments with low-level gardens and decks.
