Manual for Historic Streets: guidance on the delivery of successful streets and public spaces published
The English Historic Towns Forum (EHTF) has published its latest guidance document, the Manual for Historic Streets. It calls for similar measures to those recommended in the Department for Transport's Manual for Streets, published last year, to be extended to high streets, secondary streets, squares and other public places.
Design skills are in short supply and are critical to the delivery of successful streets and public spaces. .. the document goes some way to addressing this gap with the critical knowledge of how to achieve this,' says Sarah Gaventa, Director of CABE Space, in the Foreword.
Part one addresses the perspective and points of view of many leading figures in streetscape management on a range of issues. Part two looks at the many elements which contribute to street management, with contributions from experienced practitioners.
The document is supported by CABE Space and English Heritage and is part of the Forum's continuing work on enhancing and improving the vitality of historic towns.
Copies are available from the EHTF office, price £12 (25% discount for Members), or tel: 0117 975 045.
