Planning application submitted for 195 Code Level 6 homes on Hanham Hall Carbon Challenge site
The Homes and Communities Agency, the national housing and regeneration agency, in partnership with Barratt Homes, has submitted a full Planning Application for the creation of 195 new homes on the former Hanham Hall Hospital site in South Gloucestershire, on the outskirts of Bristol.
This Grade 2* listed building and its surrounding grounds will be transformed into a sustainable ‘eco-community’ offering a range of family homes to help meet local needs as well as a number of specially designed properties for over 55s, all of which will achieve the highest sustainability standards, built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6. The Hall will be restored and converted to accommodate a mix of community uses.
Colin Molton, Regional Director for South West England at the Homes and Communities Agency said: 'We are keen to maintain the momentum of housing delivery in the South West, and committed to maintaining quality standards. One third of the new properties will be available as affordable housing and Hanham Hall is one of the first developments to be built through our Carbon Challenge programme as part of the Government’s response to climate change.
'Barratt Homes and their design team, led by HTA Architects, have worked alongside us to develop the plans and we are delighted with their response to a highly challenging brief. The former hospital and grounds provide an extremely attractive setting that sees the new development knitted into the existing Hanham Community. We are confident that this development will quickly become a highly desirable place to live.'
Hanham Hall is one of 96 redundant hospital sites throughout England that the Homes and Communities Agency is bringing back into productive use. In total, these sites offer the potential to generate up to 14,000 new homes, including properties for first-time buyers.
