Places for living - Birmingham
In March 2001 the City Council approved 'Places for Living' as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). The document is now a major material consideration for determining planning applications for all development proposals within Birmingham containing a residential use.
The aim of 'Places for Living' is to emphasise quality of design and sustainability based on proven design principles. The guidance also reflects national planning policy as well as building on the principles of good urban design contained within the Birmingham Plan.
This guide aims to be as objective as possible, dealing with basic design issues and principles rather than personal taste with the examples used to illustrate general points. The guide is intended to positively influence the development process as much as the outcome.
