| | Area of focus UK Europe Turnover £5-10 million | | Practice overview A strong background in town planning, supported by a multi-disciplinary approach, underlines the practice’s comprehensive approach to creating successful environments. The practice has developed a specialty in environmental design, for example consulting on waste management services and the design and integration of renewables. One of its main areas of work is undertaking environmental impact assessments. In the renewable energy and utilities fields it advises on planning for on and off shore wind farms, hydro power, combined heat and power, passive solar design, biomass, anaerobic digestion and energy from waste. | | Practice mission At Terence O'Rourke we specialise in planning and environmental consultancy, including ecology and environmental impact assessment. We also cover the disciplines of urban design and master planning, landscape architecture, architecture and graphic design to provide a comprehensive service, breaking down the traditional barriers between professions. Our skills, experience and commitment enable us to find solutions to the most challenging planning, design and environmental problems. ‘The practice is very different from any other that I know,’ says Chairman Terence O'Rourke. 'One of our greatest strengths is the close integration of the various disciplines. We don't always go for the obvious solution, which makes projects far more interesting and rewarding both for ourselves and for our clients. We're able to offer very high quality service, give projects a greater chance of success and produce better schemes because of the way we think as a team’ Chairman, Terence O'Rourke The practice’s difference is rooted in its approach: it doesn’t recognise the traditional barriers between the professions, or those between client and consultant. Great emphasis is placed on listening to the client, understanding their objectives and facing challenges without preconceptions. Careful analysis combined with lateral thinking allows us to create imaginative and innovative solutions that frequently deliver above expectation, including in terms of a project’s commercial viability. | |
