Plymouth Planning and Design Briefs

Plymouth City Council has prepared these planning and design briefs as a result of the proposed disposal of these sites.

These documents will be treated as a material consideration in the decision-making process. They has been subject to full and proper public consultation, prior to being formally adopted by the City Council, thereby giving them greater weight.

The briefs have been prepared within the context of the strategic design approach for the city. This is set out within the City of Plymouth Local Plan 1995-2011 (First Deposit 2001) and includes the key urban design principles that will govern the design of new development in the future. These will be reproduced in the emerging Local Development Framework that will eventually replace the Local Plan.

The aim of the design briefs is to identify and established the main planning, urban design and conservation issues related to the sites, that need to be considered by developers, when preparing schemes for re-development of the sites. They communicate guiding principles for the development, taking into account the wider context, and will set out key constraints, and specific requirements.(June 2004)
