This bibliography aspires to share with experienced and inexperienced readers alike a cross-section of the body of research that is generally refereed to as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). While a substantial portion of the available literature has been amassed, this bibliography is not exhaustive. Instead, it is focused upon research and publications that pertain to crime in open spaces.

The bibliography consists of relevant examples from CPTED as well as related areas. For example, the effects of crime on park patrons is an important issue, but the lack of research in this area requires that general public responses to crime be examined. The result is a compilation of literature that has direct applications to most every built environment.

The comprehensive bibliographies were designed primarily for use by students taking modules taught by Hugh McClintock in the Institute of Urban Planning, School of the Built Environment, University of Nottingham, U.K.

The lists particularly focus on items on planning in England (and especially the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire areas) rather than other parts of the UK, although some important items from Wales and Scotland are also included. Several of the reading lists contain a specific section on (other) European / International material.

There is a separate list of Planning and Planning-related organisations, contact details and websites.With the retirement of Hugh McClintock from Nottingham University in June 2006 the ongoing management of the online planning resource has been taken over by RUDI.
