January 26, 2011 - Culture minister Ed Vaizey has dropped a huge hint that the proposed merger between CABE and the Design Council has been finalised, reports the Architects' Journal.

October 20, 2010 - Government is to withdraw funding from CABE by April, effectively scrapping it as a public body. A spokesperson for the DCMS has confirmed the agency, which is funded by the communities department and the DCMS, will be effectively scrapped. ... more >
New national planning policy published this week, puts good design at the heart of the system, was welcomed by CABE. The new Planning Policy Statement 1 (PPS1) will ensure that good planning and good design are indivisible. The guidance makes it clear that design is about how places work, not just how they look, a message CABE has consistently championed.
Amid the roaming chickens, sheep and adventure climbing frames of the immaculate Coram's Fields in central London, it is hard not to be overtaken by a sense of relaxation far removed from the bedlam of the thick traffic and cluttered streets less than100 yards away.
