State of the Nation: capacity and skills

The State of the Nation report has been compiled each year since 2000 by a panel of experts drawn from the various fields of expertise across ICE’s membership. Its aim is to stimulate debate and to highlight the actions that we believe are needed to improve the state of the nation’s infrastructure.

This year, instead of providing one report covering all infrastructure issues, ICE is publishing several State of the Nation reports throughout the year, each focused on a specific issue which will affect the delivery of effective infrastructure for the UK.

Australian plan for 'green collar' sustainable skills programme across the built environment sector

May 5, 2009 - As the UK contemplates the emerging sustainability skills gap relating to built environment professions, the Australian Government has come up with one solution to closing this key skills gap. Initative enabling appraisal and development of urban design skills goes ahead

November 12, 2008 - An initiative to raise design standards has been launched with support from design and planning organisations. Capacitycheck, a new method of appraising and developing urban design skills, has been published by the Urban Design Alliance, representing the built environment professions.Architecture and Design Scotland will be piloting the first Capacitycheck project. more >

Westminster University launches new course in street design and management

July 27, 2008 - It is now becoming accepted that good street design is as important to the well-being of a town or city as beautiful architecture.
